I’m preparing my pickers for the harvest.  Retelling the tale of The Little Red Hen.  Giving them pep talks and bribing them with stories of strawberry shortcake and strawberry rhubarb pie if they will just cooperate.

But it’s not looking good.  They are on to me.  They want to buy them pre-picked.  Shame on them.  This is tradition.

  1. my plants are all a-bloom with perty yellow flowers. I hope they’re not sour this year!

  2. How cute! Mine so want to go picking yet I can just see my five running with glee all through the lines of strawberries to the point that the farmer might kick us out! We usually buy strawberries though because red and black respberries grow all around our home and neighbors so we pick and pick and pick! We LOVE berries and I hope to post a lot of great berry recipes as we try new things.

I love strawberries! And they always taste sweeter when they’re picked and eaten still warm from the sun.

  4. Too funny. I remember my father making me go work with him in his garden. They’ll grumble but appreciate it … eventually – smiles!
